THIRTY-FIFTH ANNUAL NORTH CAROLINA INDIAN UNITY CONFERENCE
Hilton North Raleigh
3415 Wake Forest Road – Raleigh, NC 27609-7330
 American Indian Child Welfare
This workshop will present information on the existing state law that requires the development of policies and procedures to assure consideration of the “best interests” of American Indian children and address the confusion that has arisen about its implementation because of the Multiethnic Placement Act (MEPA), a Federal law denying the placement of children on the grounds of race, color or national origin. When does special consideration under state law become racial discrimination under Federal law?   The workshop will address steps that are currently being taken to address the implementation of the state law and seek community input on issues that hinder the identification of American Indian children and affect the willingness of Indian families to become foster or adoptive parents.

Ronda D. Jones-Hughes, Owner/CEO/Founder, presenting certificates of completetion to Red Path's first MAPP graduates on November 24, 2009.
